Read an E-Book Week, March 6 - 12, 2011
Welcome to Read an E-Book Week!

Wonderful News! March is now Read an E-book Month in Canada.

During the 41st sitting of Parliament a motion was passed which proclaimed the month of March as Read an E-book Month. Wouldn't it be nice if we could have the U.S. join in and have a North American E-book Month?

Join us March 4-10, 2012 for our next Read an E-Book Week extravaganza.

E-BOOKS TURNED 40! That's right - 2011 marked forty years since Michael S. Hart created the first "e-book". For a more in-depth look at the history of e-books please see our web page.

With the advent of e-books, e-book libraries were needed. Enter Mr. Hart, once again, with Project Gutenberg.

A CHALLENGE! Last year several E-Book Week participants sat in their favorite coffee shop for a few hours with a sign that said "Ask me about e-books". They had either an e-reader or other device for reading e-books and showed it to anyone who was interested. "It was a lot of fun!" we were told. Why not try it yourself this year? Take a photo and send it to us and we'll post it. Maybe we'll get enough images to make a collage!

Or, go to our Read an E-Book Week promotion page and choose ONE thing to do to during Read an E-Book Week to help promote e-books to your community!

E-books have revolutionized our reading experience. Competition for the best e-book reader is hot and shows no signs of letting up. The Kindle 3 is smaller, lighter, and has an improved display. It is also cheaper. In response to the price drops for the Nook, Kobo and Sony e-Reader, Amazon has reduced the latest Kindle price tag to U.S. $189.00 for the wi-fi and 3G capable device, and U.S. $139.00 for the wi-fi only device.
